Selection Guide
• For mild corrosion, choose normal-grade single-layer; for moderate corrosion, reinforced-grade double-layer; for severe corrosion or saline-alkali soil, extra-reinforced-grade multi-layer.
• For factory batch prefabrication, PE tape is preferred; for on-site repair and special-shaped fittings, PP reinforced fiber tape is preferred.
• For normal-temperature service, use standard PE tape; for high-temperature service, use high-temperature-resistant type.
• For cathodically protected pipelines, choose cathodic-disbondment-resistant type; for coastal salt spray environments, upgrade to PP reinforced type.
Installation Instructions
• Use soft slings for lifting; steel wire ropes are strictly prohibited to avoid scratching the coating.
• Protect the pipe-end coating before welding to prevent spatter from burning the anti-corrosion layer.
• For field joint coating, use the same-material tape, wrapping layer by layer at the specified overlap width to match the pipe body quality.
• Before lowering into the trench, clear hard objects from the bottom and use a soft-soil bedding layer; avoid direct impact from stones during backfilling.
• On-site wrapping should avoid rainy, snowy, and windy weather; take low-temperature measures when the ambient temperature is below 5℃.
Storage Guidelines
• Store on a flat, dry site away from fire sources and strong corrosive media; avoid water immersion.
• Support pipes on wooden blocks, no less than 200mm above ground; multi-layer heavy stacking is prohibited to prevent wrinkling or deformation.
• For outdoor storage, cover with a sunshade cloth to prevent aging and adhesive loss caused by prolonged direct sunlight.
• Handle with care; dragging or rolling is prohibited to avoid scratches and edge lifting.
• Under normal conditions, storage should not exceed 6 months; beyond that, re-inspect adhesion and holiday detection.
FAQ
Q: What is the difference from 3PE?
A: 3PE uses hot-melt co-extrusion, suitable for mass prefabrication and long-distance trunk lines. Wrapped coating uses cold-wrap overlapping, available as both prefabrication and on-site application, making it more suitable for municipal branch lines, station piping, and in-service rehabilitation.
Q: Can it be applied on site?
A: Yes. No large-scale dedicated equipment is required; simply bring the materials and tools for on-site wrapping. It offers a short construction cycle and low cost.
Q: What are the overlap width requirements?
A: The standard width should be no less than 1/2 of the tape width, and no less than 2/3 for reinforced grade. Insufficient overlap reduces sealing performance, while excessive overlap increases cost.
Q: How to repair damage?
A: Small areas can be repaired with a repair patch; for large areas, cut out the failed section and re-wrap with the same-material tape layer by layer, then put it back into service only after passing the holiday detection test.
