Product Introduction

As global underground pipeline infrastructure continues to expand across oil and gas, water conveyance and industrial utility sectors, asset owners and engineering contractors are placing higher priority on long-term anti-corrosion performance rather than short-term procurement costs. Fusion Bonded Epoxy coated steel pipe has gradually become a preferred anti-corrosion pipeline solution, well recognized in international engineering standards, and the finished FBE steel pipes stacked in factory storage represent mature, mass-produced pipeline products that can be delivered to global construction sites in a short lead time

The core structure of FBE coating steel pipe follows strict standardized construction procedures. The production process starts with thorough surface pretreatment of carbon steel base pipe. Steel pipe outer surface will go through shot blasting to achieve specified cleanliness and roughness, removing rust, oxide scale and residual contaminants. After preheating treatment, dry epoxy powder material is electrostatically sprayed evenly onto the heated steel surface. Under controlled thermal conditions, epoxy powder melts, flows and cross-links to form a continuous, compact solid coating tightly bonded with steel substrate. Unlike liquid paint which easily forms pinholes and uneven film thickness, FBE coating forms a seamless monolithic protective layer without solvent residue. Single-layer FBE coating is widely adopted for many buried pipelines, while dual-layer FBE systems can be customized for projects with extremely harsh soil corrosion conditions

One of the most outstanding characteristics of FBE coating lies in its stable adhesion property. Buried pipelines constantly face ground settlement, minor soil displacement and external extrusion force. Many traditional anti-corrosion coatings tend to peel off from the steel surface under slight mechanical deformation, which creates leakage channels for corrosive medium such as underground water, sulfide and chloride ions. FBE coating forms chemical bonding with steel after curing. When the pipe undergoes slight bending or surface impact, the coating will not separate from the base metal easily. In addition, the cured epoxy layer possesses excellent chemical inertness. It resists erosion from acidic soil, alkaline soil, saline groundwater, and diluted chemical solutions commonly encountered in industrial and municipal environments

From the perspective of whole life cycle cost, FBE coated steel pipe brings prominent economic advantages for pipeline projects. Although the initial processing cost is higher than ordinary paint anti-corrosion pipes, its service life can reach multiple decades under proper construction. Once the coating fails partially, pipeline corrosion expands rapidly, which will trigger expensive excavation, pipeline replacement and production shutdown losses. Many pipeline operators ignore long-term risks by choosing low-grade anti-corrosion products, leading to frequent maintenance within ten years after project completion. FBE coating effectively slows down external corrosion of steel pipes, greatly extending maintenance intervals and reducing overall operation expenditure for pipeline owners

The product is applicable to a wide range of cross-border engineering scenarios. In onshore oil and gas gathering pipelines, FBE coating protects transmission pipes buried in complex geological zones. In municipal drinking water and reclaimed water transportation projects, solvent-free epoxy material meets international environmental requirements for water contact medium. Industrial park circulating water pipelines, power plant auxiliary water pipelines, and long-distance cross-area water diversion projects all adopt FBE coated steel pipes on a large scale. For projects requiring strict third-party inspection, finished pipes can be supplied with complete test reports covering coating thickness, holiday detection, adhesion strength and impact resistance, to satisfy requirements of international engineering bidding standards
