The service life of CE piling pipes is determined by the raw material, corrosion protection measures, and operating environment, requiring comprehensive consideration. The following factors primarily influence their use:
Raw Materials: Pile pipes made of EN 10219-1:2006 standard S355J0H steel can last over 50 years in a non-corrosive environment. For corrosive soil or seawater environments, carbon steel piles can be coated with an anti-corrosion coating, extending their service life to 30-50 years.
Anti-Corrosion Technology: The use of 3PE anti-corrosion coating can extend the service life to over 40 years, particularly in acidic soils, where it outperforms bare steel. In mildly corrosive environments, the service life can reach 20-30 years.
As users, we expect the CE piling pipes we purchase to last for a long time, so we need to consider how to extend their service life.
Regular Inspection: Coating integrity inspections are required after a period of use, typically every five years. This inspection period can be shortened for use in harsh environments.
Design Optimization: In coastal areas, cathodic protection systems can be added to extend service life by 10-15 years.
Extreme Environments: For oilfield platform pile foundations, a double-layer epoxy coating plus sacrificial anode protection can achieve a service life exceeding 100 years.
Dynamic Loads: In these situations, we need to consider the fatigue effects of CE piling pipes. We do not recommend their use, as their service life is approximately 20-30 years and they require frequent maintenance and upkeep.
