Product Introduction

Straight seam submerged arc welded pipe (LSAW) is produced according to EN ISO 3183 L360NE PSL2 standard and is a high-performance pipe suitable for oil and gas transportation under the European system. This standard is significantly different from API 5L PSL2: in terms of material requirements, L360NE (equivalent to API 5L X52) not only requires a yield strength of 360MPa, but also emphasizes the "NE" (no hole expansion) characteristics, and strictly controls the carbon equivalent (CEV≤0.43%) and microstructure to ensure the crack arrest performance of the steel pipe at low temperatures, while API 5L focuses more on basic mechanical indicators. In terms of manufacturing process, EN ISO 3183 requires normalizing or quenching and tempering heat treatment, while API 5L allows controlled rolling process; in terms of testing, the European standard adds DWTT test (-15℃ shear area ≥85%) and more stringent HIC test (NACE TM0284 A solution), while the API standard only makes optional requirements for this. In terms of dimensional tolerance, EN ISO 3183 stipulates that the outer diameter tolerance of ±0.75% is slightly looser than API's ±0.5%, but the wall thickness tolerance of +15%/-10% is stricter than API's +19%/-8%. In terms of the marking system, the European standard requires complete traceability coding, including furnace number, pipe number, heat treatment batch, etc., which is more detailed than API. Especially in terms of corrosion performance, L360NE optimizes the sulfide morphology by adding trace elements such as Ca, and its anti-HIC performance is significantly better than the same level API 5L steel pipe. The two standards have similar requirements for hydrostatic pressure tests (1.25 times the design pressure), but EN ISO 3183 adds an air pressure test option. In actual applications, the North Sea oil fields, Russian Arctic projects, etc. mostly use the EN ISO 3183 standard, while the Americas and the Middle East tend to prefer API 5L, reflecting the difference in adaptability of the two major standard systems in marine corrosion environments and long-distance pipelines on land.
