Straight seam submerged arc welded pipe (LSAW) is an important pipe widely used in the field of oil and gas transportation. The production and quality control of API 5L strictly follow the API 5L standard formulated by the American Petroleum Institute. This kind of steel pipe uses high-quality steel plates as raw materials and is processed by advanced JCOE or UOE forming processes. It has the characteristics of stable weld quality, high dimensional accuracy, and excellent pressure bearing performance. It is particularly suitable for the construction needs of large-diameter high-pressure pipelines. According to API standard requirements, the diameter range of LSAW welded pipes is usually between 406 mm and 1422 mm, and the wall thickness can reach 6-120 mm, which can meet the transportation requirements of different pressure levels. In terms of material selection, the standard strictly stipulates the chemical composition of steel plates, especially the restrictions on carbon equivalent, sulfur and phosphorus content, to ensure that the steel pipe has good welding performance and corrosion resistance. Taking the commonly used X70 steel grade as an example, its yield strength must reach 485-635 MPa, and its tensile strength must reach 570-760 MPa. At the same time, in a low temperature environment of minus 20 degrees, the impact energy of the base material and the weld must not be less than 80 joules and 60 joules respectively. In the manufacturing process, multi-wire submerged arc welding technology is used. Through the coordinated use of 3-5 welding wires, the welding heat input is strictly controlled within the range of 20-50 kJ/cm, and post-weld heat treatment must be performed to improve the weld structure and performance. The API 5L standard divides products into two quality grades, PSL1 and PSL2. Among them, PSL2 grade has higher requirements in chemical composition control, non-destructive testing and mechanical properties. This type of steel pipe has been successfully used in many major pipeline projects at home and abroad, including long-distance high-pressure natural gas pipelines such as the West-East Gas Transmission Project and the China-Russia East Line, as well as special working conditions such as deep-sea oil and gas development and polar low-temperature environments. Its reliable quality assurance system provides an important guarantee for the safe transportation of energy.
