ASTM A671 pipe: suitable for electric fusion welded steel pipes for normal and low temperatures, and must be used under pressure (such as pipeline systems). ASTM A672 pipe: similar to A671, but designed for high-pressure conditions, usually used in the power or chemical industry. Made by arc welding process, the weld must meet strict non-destructive testing requirements (such as radiographic or ultrasonic testing). Sizes and parameters have a wide range of sizes, usually with diameters of 16 inches (406mm) or more, and the wall thickness must meet high pressure requirements. Suitable for low temperatures of -45°C and above (CL22 corresponds to the operating temperature).
A672 pipe material and grade introduction:
B60: carbon content ≤0.30%, Mn ≤1.60%, carbon manganese steel, low alloying;
B65: carbon content ≤0.25%, Mn content 0.90-1.50%, silicon added for strengthening;
B70: carbon content ≤0.31%, Mn ≤1.30%, higher purity;
C70: indicates carbon steel material, carbon content is about 0.70%, belonging to medium and high strength steel.
CL22: "CL" stands for Class, 22 means the minimum yield strength is 22 ksi (about 152 MPa).
CL12: stress relief only (600-650℃), suitable for non-low temperature scenarios.
A672 pipe heat treatment during production usually requires normalizing to improve the mechanical properties of the weld and the matrix and ensure low temperature toughness.
