Oil And Gas Transmission Steel Pipes

Driven by multiple favorable factors such as national energy supply guarantees, improved trunk pipeline networks, gas storage construction, and the renovation of aging pipelines, oil and gas transmission steel pipes, as a core basic material for long-distance oil and gas transportation, urban gas distribution, and submarine pipeline projects, are experiencing a sustained surge in industry prosperity, entering a new development cycle characterized by large-scale, high-end, green, and domestically produced technologies.

Oil and gas transmission steel pipes primarily use high-quality pipeline steel as their base material, with mainstream materials covering high-grade pipeline materials such as L245, L360, L415, L450, X65, X70, and X80. They are categorized into three main types: straight seam submerged arc welded pipes, spiral submerged arc welded pipes, and seamless transmission steel pipes. The products possess excellent properties such as high strength, high toughness, high pressure resistance, low-temperature resistance, geological subsidence resistance, and corrosion resistance. They can adapt to complex geological and extreme climatic environments such as plains, mountains, permafrost, coastal salt spray, and deep sea, making them an irreplaceable key material for onshore long-distance pipelines, urban gas pipeline networks, offshore oil and gas platforms, and gas storage injection and production pipelines.

From the perspective of market demand, the national oil and gas trunk pipeline network continues to expand, with national-level energy channels such as the West-to-East Gas Pipeline, the China-Russia East Route Gas Pipeline, and the Sichuan-to-East Gas Pipeline extending and directly driving steady growth in demand for large-diameter, high-grade steel pipes. Simultaneously, the comprehensive renovation and upgrading of aging urban gas pipelines is underway across the country, with ongoing projects for urban gas connections, industrial park gas supply, and county-level pipeline interconnection, keeping orders for small- and medium-diameter corrosion-resistant steel pipes at a high level. Furthermore, emerging fields such as offshore wind power-supporting submarine oil and gas pipelines, underground gas storage construction, and hydrogen energy transmission pilot pipelines are rapidly developing, opening up new growth opportunities for the industry and driving a year-on-year increase in demand for high-grade corrosion-resistant and high-pressure-resistant special steel pipes.

Production processes and quality standards are continuously being upgraded, driving the industry towards precision and intelligence. Currently, the industry widely adopts advanced processes such as precision rolling, micro-alloying smelting, controlled rolling and cooling, online ultrasonic flaw detection, and fully automated submerged arc welding to strictly control pipe wall thickness, roundness, straightness, and weld quality. Through a comprehensive quality control process including raw material re-inspection, mechanical property testing, hydrostatic testing, and anti-corrosion layer testing, the industry ensures stable pressure resistance, crack resistance, and fatigue resistance of steel pipes, meeting the requirements for long-distance, high-pressure, and all-weather safe transportation. High-end external and internal anti-corrosion technologies such as 3PE, TPEP, and epoxy powder are widely used, significantly extending pipeline service life and reducing subsequent maintenance costs.

At the policy level, the country continues to promote the interconnection of energy pipeline networks and the construction of oil and gas production, supply, storage, and sales systems, issuing numerous standards and specifications to improve pipeline safety levels and corrosion resistance requirements. This forces the industry to eliminate low-end and outdated production capacity and guides enterprises to transform towards high-grade steel, large-diameter pipes, high-corrosion-resistance, and customized products. Under the dual-carbon context, green production has become the industry standard. Enterprises are upgrading their production lines to environmentally friendly spraying, dust-free rust removal, and energy-saving rolling to reduce energy consumption and pollutant emissions, and achieve simultaneous progress in low-carbon manufacturing and quality upgrading.

The process of domestic substitution continues to accelerate. High-grade, thick-walled, and submarine-specific steel pipes, previously reliant on imports, are now being mass-produced domestically. These products meet international performance standards and, thanks to their high cost-effectiveness, short delivery cycles, and convenient localized services, are not only fully supplied to major domestic energy projects but also exported in large quantities to overseas markets such as Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, steadily increasing their international market share.

Looking ahead, with the further densification of the national oil and gas trunk pipeline network, the in-depth advancement of urban gas system upgrades, and the accelerated development of deep-sea oil and gas and hydrogen energy transmission pipeline networks, the market for oil and gas transmission steel pipes will maintain long-term stable growth. Industry enterprises will continue to increase investment in the research and development of new materials and processes, optimize product structure, and strengthen anti-corrosion technology and intelligent manufacturing levels to provide a solid steel guarantee for national energy security, pipeline interconnection, and the implementation of clean energy strategies through high-quality, highly reliable, and long-life transmission pipes.
